l  Lead-in

The teacher presents the result of a survey among students about skipping meals, which shows that a large amount of students sometimes skip meals, and most of them skip breakfast to save time.

l  Pre-reading

The teacher presents the task:

请你针对当下许多同学不吃早餐的现象,在校报上发表一篇文章,呼吁同学们合理饮食、健康生活。要点如下:

1. 不吃早餐的原因;2. 不吃早餐的危害; 3. 给出建议并说明原因

注意:词数60左右(除去给出部分)

 

l  While-reading

Step 1

1. Q1: What do you pay attention to first when reading a news report?

The teacher shows the headline of the news report.

Conclusion: A news report should have an eye-catching headline.

  Q2: What information can you get from the headline?

2. Students read the first paragraph of the news report.

 Q: What information can you get from para.1?

 The teacher introduces the lead to students, which contains the most information of a news report.

3. Students compare the lead with the headline.

Conclusion: A news report should have a short headline.

 

 

 

 

Step 2

1. The teacher introduces the typical structure of a news report: the inverted pyramid and explains it to students.

2. Students have a fast reading of para.2-7 and have a discussion: Which detail impresses you most?

3. Students summarize the structure of the news report and complete the table.

1. Students read from para.2-4 carefully.

  Students read the answer aloud together.

1. Students read para.5 carefully.

  Q: What are the results of the survey?

2. The teacher guides students to pay attention to the figures.

  Q: How does the author present the results?

  Conclusion: Figures are provided to make the results accurate and convincing.

 

Step 5

1. Students read para.6 carefully.

  Q1: Is it necessary for teenagers to lose weight?

Students complete the chart.

2. Discussion: If it’s unnecessary, why did Jennifer skip meals to lose weight?

Teacher shows students some false beauty standards online.

The teacher shows the saying of Audrey Hepburn: Beauty is being the best possible version of yourself on the inside and out.

 

Step 6

1. Group work: If you want to be more beautiful, what should you do?

1. Students complete the writing task on their own.

2. The teacher invites some students to share their writing with the class.
