Task: Planning a Holiday for Your Family

Teaching objectives:

1. To help students to get key factors included in a travel plan by reading and listening travel leaflets

2. To help students to learn to write an e-mail about a travel plan

3. To help students to learn to solve a practical problem in their daily life --- how to make a family holiday travel plan



Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Lead-in

      1. Show students a picture about the popular program “Where are we going, Dad?” and some pictures about Hunan, Shangdong.

      2. Ask students to have a brainstorming about factors should be included in a travel plan.



Step 2: Reading the travel leaflets provided by the travel agents

      1. Ask students to read two travel leaflets in our textbook first.

      2. Encourage them to fill in as many blanks as possible based on the two travel leaflets.

      3. Check the answers together with the students.



Step 3: Listening to what the travel agents say to get more information

      1. Ask students to get more details about the travel plans by consulting the travel agent.

      2. Ask students to listen to what the travel agent say to get more details.

      3. Check the answers together with the students.

      4. Summarize the two travel leaflets according to the key factors in a travel plan.

     

Step 4: Pair work--Make up a dialogue

      1. Students are required to tell the travel plan to mom and get mom’s approval together. (Pair work: one works as the son or daughter, and the other works as the mother.)      

      2. Some groups of students are invited to share their dialogue with the whole class.



Step 5: Writing an e-mail

      1. According to the travel plan chosen, they are required to write an e-mail to inform dad of their plan for their family trip as dad is on a business trip right now.

      2. Remind them of the key information that should be included in the e-mail and give them about 5 min. to write an e-mail as required.

      3. After writing, invite some students to share their writing to the whole class.

      4. Other students are encouraged to give some comments on the writing presented.

      5. Present one possible version for appreciation to help them polish up their writing.



Step 6: Homework

      1. Polish up the writing after class.

      2. Make a travel plan for a 2-day trip in Changzhou.

这堂课的教学活动设计致力于帮助学生锻炼其听说读写的综合能力,每个步骤联系较为紧密,但是课堂还是存在一些问题:

1. 学生的主观能动性并没有得到较好的调动。例如,学生在做Pair work--Make up a dialogue的时候,我把学生对话需要涉及的问题作了一些限定。尽管这种限定是为了服务于本节课的教学目标,但是如果能够给学生更多的引导,给学生充分发挥的空间,也许效果会更好。

2. 各项课堂活动的时间分配还需进一步改善。例如,本节课分为读、听、说和写四个部分。前三个部分属于输入部分,是为了第四部分的写作,即输出部分。但是,在课堂上,由于对时间的掌控不足,最后的输出部分,我并没有得到很好地呈现,这对于整堂课来说是比较遗憾的。

3. 课堂活动的设计需要能够与学生的实际情况联系。例如,在课前,我应该对学生的情况进行了解,这样有助于课堂上某些环节的顺利进行。
